NYS Route 5 Rehabilitation (Central Avenue/State Street)

Laberge Group performed preliminary and final design services for a 3.1 mile segment of Central Avenue/State Street, which is a four-lane Urban Arterial Highway in the counties of Albany and Schenectady. Preliminary design activities included addressing social, economic and environmental issues, design survey and mapping, preparation of preliminary plans of the preferred design alternative, accident analysis, evaluating the condition of the existing storm sewer system, abstract request mapping and  preparation of a Design Report/Approval Documents. Due to numerous commercial driveways in the corridor, Laberge Group also prepared Access Management Plans for the purpose of improving access by reducing the number of driveway conflicts. Final design activities included developing on-site maintenance and protection of traffic plans (AADT of 23,000), milling, rubblizing and resurfacing of existing pavement, storm sewer upgrade/modification, new traffic control signs and pavement markings, new curbs and sidewalks compliant with ADA. Additional design activities included:
- New bus turnout and shelters
- New water main and services
- Provisions for Bicycle Accommodations
- Replacement of large concrete box culvert and new guide rail system
 Signing and Pavement Markings - Intersection grading plans
- Driveway access improvements
- Sanitary sewer modifications
- Right-of-way mapping
- Relocation of privately owned utilities
- New fencing
- Landscaping amenities (trees, tree wells, new stairways, railings, etc.)
Our overall rating for this project by NYSDOT was an 8. NYSDOT Consultant Management Bureau made the following comments: regarding our performance on this project.
"... is reliable, reacts correctly, negotiates in a fair manner, discloses conflict of interest, open-minded."..."The firm should be considered for future work with the Department."
