Congress Street Corridor Study

City of Troy, New York

Laberge Group provided urban planning and design services as part of a citywide Land Use Planning Study promoting economic development, cohesive neighborhoods, and alleviating automobile congestion.

The 2.1 mile project area was located along the Congress Street corridor extending from the Hudson River in downtown Troy through the Poesten Kill Gorge Historic District to the City/Brunswick Town line.

Scope of work included data collection and base mapping, analysis of corridor use and existing conditions, development of recommendations and strategies for redevelopment along with public presentation to promote corridor plan and coordination with current and future transportation improvement and planning projects.

The plan focused on the creation of comprehensive concept development and implementation strategies for redevelopment of heavily traveled urban, commercial and residential areas within the corridor.

The study ultimately recommended the creation of four planning districts within the corridors. Recommendations for short term and long term improvements for each district were identified for future implementation by the City.
