Salt Storage Facility

Village of Colonie, NY

Laberge Group’s design for the Village of Colonie Salt Silo contains many features important to both function and form of the structure. The two separate 750 cubic yard storage areas within the building allow the Village to store sand and salt separately and the 2,500 square foot loading area, with 20 ft clear height provides enough room to mix materials if desired. The facility is designed to be a drive through structure eliminating the need for trucks to back in and out of the building eliminating the dangers of backing vehicles and increasing the rate at which trucks can be loaded. The construction utilizes 10 ft high 16-inch thick concrete walls with timber framing above, while the exterior provides a barn like appearance. Appearance of the facility was of particular importance because it is adjacent to a residential neighborhood.

In addition to the above, the facility includes the required impermeable floor, ventilation and lighting to make this facility one of the finest of its kind.
