Master Plan Update
Village of Colonie, New York
|
|

The Village of Colonie, recognizing major changes in population, new development, and the shifting needs and concerns of Village residents, decided to update its Master Plan. The Village created a Master Plan Advisory Committee to facilitate the process. The committee was charged with creating a plan that responds to current and future growth trends and pressures, eliminates conflicting land uses along inter-municipal boundaries, promotes quality communities, accommodates appropriate economic development, and identifies and protects the Village's existing natural and environmental resources. The Master Plan identifies and examines a comprehensive list of existing conditions including:
- Demographics.
- Economic features.
- Natural resources
- Municipal resources.
- Recreation and community facilities.
- Education resources.
- Transportation.
- Land use.

In concert with a strong public participation process, the Master Plan blends data analysis with the future needs of the community to create and establish goals, recommendations, and actions from which to construct a new future.
Public participation played a key role in the development of the updated Master Plan. To ensure that residents had ample opportunities to provide information and assist in crafting a common vision, the Village: utilized residential and business surveys; conducted visioning and community image workshops; facilitated a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats workshop and analysis; held two public hearings; released a final village-wide survey to gauge support for the final goals.
