Local Economic Development Plan
Town of Fort Edward, New York
|
|
Facing
the planned large-scale dredging project of the Hudson River,
closure of the local grocery store, the loss of two major
industrial employers, loss of population and overall economic
depression, the Town of Fort Edward turned to Laberge Group
for assistance with the preparation of a Local Economic
Development Plan.
Working with a committee of eight individuals, including
members of the Town Board, Village Board, residents, and
business owners, Laberge Group conducted an inventory and
analysis of existing demographic, socio-economic and market
conditions within the Town.
To ensure effective community
outreach and participation, the Town provided many opportunities
for public participation. Residents were invited to participate
in written community surveys, business surveys, a community
Assets and Liabilities Workshop, and a Business Roundtable
Workshop. The final Plan resulted in the creation of a Vision
Statement, Goals and Recommendations that build on the assets
of the community and capitalize on the many opportunities
that were identified during the planning process.
Vision Statement
The Town of Fort Edward will strive
to provide a positive business-friendly atmosphere that
will offer a variety of affordable, quality goods, services,
and job opportunities for residents and tourists alike.
The future of the Town
is dependent upon efforts to enhance the overall image of
the community, improve living conditions, and to promote
and protect historical, cultural, recreational and scenic
assets.
The Town has the potential
to be a center for tourism and business, and will strive
to form cooperative partnerships between public and private
entities to turn local challenges into future opportunities.
