Bridge and Tunnel Surveys, C.P. Rail
Clinton and Essex Counties, New York
|
|
Laberge
Group was retained to perform a survey of four bridges
and two tunnels near Lake Champlain for Canadian Pacific
Railway (C.P. Rail) in Clinton and Essex Counties,
New York.
|
|
The
surveys were prepared to establish the existing width
and height of the existing structures in order to
determine whether the existing structures could accommodate
the double deck cars and increased sized boxcars in
C.P. Rail's plans. |
|
|
The tunnel in Ticonderoga
is 432 feet long, while the Willsboro tunnel is
over 600 feet long and on a curve. Access is only
available via rail. Since freight and passenger
rail service schedules could not be disrupted, survey
work began at 3:00 A.M. each morning, in order to
be off the tracks before scheduled AMTRAK service.
|
|
|
|
The
completed survey maps provided cross-sections and
profiles of each bridge and tunnel and the horizontal
and vertical clearances of the existing structures.
